Athletes' Assistance Programme (AAP)

In seeking to fulfil the mandate of the National Sport Policy (2013) of protecting and safeguarding the wellbeing of our sportsmen and women, the Government of Jamaica (GoJ) is committed to establishing and maintaining a sustainable and transparent system that will enable our athletes to perform at their highest level at top international competitions and reaching their goals.

In light of this obligation, the Government recognized that athletes incurred a considerable amount of expenses to cover the cost of coaching and training, transportation, physiotherapy, massage therapy, nutrition and other specialized related needs and will offer support through the Athletes’ Assistance Programme.

Who is eligible?

Athletes eligible for support must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be validated by their respective National Association/Federation for possible selection to the Jamaica team for Major Games including, the Olympics and Paralympic Games as well as World Championships.
  • Meet the qualifying standard or are likely to qualify for Games/Championships.
  • Not be under sanctions for any Adverse Doping Violation or other disciplinary matter.
  • Not have a current sponsorship contract that provides funding for training and other expenses.
  • Not be enrolled in school (high school or college).

What are the requirements for AAP?

Selected athletes are required to:

  • Complete the Athlete Registration and the Code of Conduct Forms.
  • Be currently training and competing in the sport and must continue to train after receiving funding.
  • Update the Ministry of any change to relevant personal information.
  • Update the Ministry if unable to train for any reason.
  • Adhere to the signed GOJ Code of Conduct and must commit to upholding integrity in the sport.
  • Agree to participate in tournaments/ national Championships organized by national federations/associations.
  • Be fully prepared to represent Jamaica if selected for the National team.

How can I use the AAP funding?

Funding must be used to offset sport-related expenses such as:

  • Coaching and Training
  • Transportation
  • Physiotherapy and massage therapy
  • Nutrition
  • Other special needs related cost
